Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 Platinum Edition [OLD VERSION]

Burning data and music compilation CDs is simple enough with a "drag to CD" function--you can literally drag files from Windows Explorer onto an icon that resizes in the lower right corner of the desktop. More complex burning and copying can be done through wizards or manually.

For DVD authoring, Roxio includes support for every DVD burning format out there. It allows you to create movies, photo slide shows and more. It interfaces directly with digital video recorders to capture footage to the PC's hard drive, from where you can then burn them to a DVD. You can rearrange parts of a movie, trim clips, add sound, and more. The interface is functional at best, though, and casual film directors will pine for a simpler, more graceful solution than this program can offer.

The PhotoSuite applet's interface is overly friendly and not nearly powerful enough. Adding photos from a networked PC was a painstakingly slow process. Worse, once we'd picked out a few dozen photos, we went to create a VCD slide show and were met with an error message that even baffled Roxio tech support.

Another caveat: Easy CD automatically checks for product updates, but it forces you to register the product in order to download them. This invasion of privacy aside, Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 does provide some easy and user friendly features at the cost of clunky interfaces and limited options for power users.--Joel Durham

Based on the quality of the old version, and the new features in version 6 I decided to buy this product anyway. I am glad that I did. It works flawlesly on my Windows XP SP1 Home Edition System and Teac 40x CD writer.

I have 4 friends who have since bought this software and they have had no problems either (2 using Windows XP, 1 using Windows ME, and another using Windows 98SE).

The people who are having problems probably have forgotton to remove old CD writing software (IF YOU HAVE HAD NERO ON YOUR PC MAKE SURE YOU COMPLETELY REMOVE BOTH 'NERO' AND 'IN CD' WHICH COMES WITH IT). Check also that your system has all the latest Windows Updates installed (Windows XP users make sure you have Service Pack One).

Make sure you have the latest updates installed as well...

I am very much into burning CD's and now DVD's with the help of Easy CD Creator 6. I have used many other burning software and have nothing but problems. Installing Nero 5 made me lose my drives and I was stuck in Tech Support hell......p. I also tried making VCD and DVD movies with Sonic My DVD and it was a very frustrating experience.

With Creator 6 I was able to capture my video easily, add the content to the DVD Builder layout and I created a DVD with menu's that played perfectly the first time I tried. I am telling you and hope you believe me when I say, this is the easiest CD and DVD burning application available hands down.

I also forgot to mention the MGI photo application that is now owned by Roxio is also bundled as well. The biggest improvement over Creator 4 and 5 is the Audio application Audio Central which lets you rip MP3's and edit the MP3 file and ID Tags which contain all the information of the file. It compares to the audio features of Microsofts media player.

I strongly recommend this suite of burning products to anyone that has a digital camera, video camera, dvd player, or wants to backup or create audio CD's. This application does it all.

Don't listen to the others who gave this a one star. I too was initially confused by it. Once I actually took the time to sit down and read through the very boring instructional booklet, I found it to be very user friendly. I will be the first to admit that if you are going from an older version to this new version, YOU WILL BE CONFUSED IF YOU DO NOT READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. READ THE BOOK, GENIUS!

Roxio Software Developers-please update the next version to allow you to print the library or a songlist. Thanks.

When I was considering buying CD Creator 5 a little over a year ago, I saw a lot of bad reviews. My excitement over the new release was halted by the return of the bad reviews, especially from peole like me with XP.
The "This product doesn't work with XP period" reviews are wrong. I have XP and it works fine. Same great creator classic plus the new DVD builder, as well as the ability to make multi-disc projects make this the best yet.
Please note, however, that I did NOT install the Drag-to-Disc or Photsite- I didn't need them. Drag-to-Disc is present in a basic form in XP, and it takes memory. And I don't do photos, so I can't report on those parts of the product.
Disc Copy has been enhanced a bit, and all the programs have been given a suave new look.
The only downside is the lack of actual movie editing that comes with DVD builder- but windows movie maker can do just fine for that.
Overall, a great product. If you have 5 but don't have a dvd-burner, it's a close all (check Roxio.com's feature comparison). If you do have a DVD burner- I definately recommend this product.

I spent a lot of time reading the negative reviews for this product. I decided to buy it anyway. Prior to installing the software, I made a full back up of my system as other reviewers said that they had trouble booting up after installation. I am running Win XP Home and my installation worked without issue. I love the new interface and new tools available. I have not had one error or problem and the burning speed is about 25% faster than version 5. Make sure you completely remove all of version 5 before installing the new version and you shouldn't have any issues.
